Water Charges – Details of the New Water Charges Announced
New Water Charges
Irish Water wishes to inform domestic customers of the new charges that will now be applied for public water services from 1 January 2015.
Key information for domestic customers:
- Water services charges are now capped at a maximum annual amount until the end of 2018.
- There will be a water conservation grant of €100 per year that will be available for all primary residences.
- Billing will start from April 2015 and bills will normally be issued quarterly.
- Water services for children are still free.
What are the charges if I do not have a water meter?

What are the charges if I have a water meter?
Metered charges are based on the volume of water supplied.
Water services are measured in m3 (1 m3 = 1 cubic metre = 1,000 litres).

If you have a water meter you will pay no more than the capped charges of €160 for a single adult household and €260 for a multi adult household, but if you conserve water you could pay less.
Not permanently occupied charge
When a domestic property is not permanently occupied the not permanently occupied charge applies.
- €125 per annum for both services (water supply and wastewater services)
- €62.50 per annum per service (water supply or wastewater services)

Water conservation grant
There will be a water conservation grant of €100 per year that will be available for all primary residences of customers who apply to Irish Water, payable though the Department of Social Protection.
